- Food Pantry
The first Sunday of each month is designated “Food Sunday”. On that day we ask you to bring any non-perishable food items you can spare to worship with you to donate to our church’s food pantry. Church members and members of the community use our food pantry when in need. You can help by donating food items on the designated Sundays, or by dropping off donations anytime during regular office hours. Monetary donations are also accepted.
- Buckets for Hunger
Buckets for Hunger is one of our ‘Bridges to the Future’ projects. It’s a national program that takes money we collect throughout the year and matches it with the stipulation that it be used to help the hungry in our area. In 2007, the funds were distributed to: Father Carr’s Place 2B, The Salvation Army, Christine Ann Center, St Joseph’s Food Pantry, OSLC
Food Fund, and to buy Christmas hams for members of the community. Click here for link to the Bucket’s for Hunger website.
- Father Carr Meals
On designated days during the year, Our Savior’s members volunteer to prepare a special “Father Carr” casserole. The casseroles are prepared at home using an easy to make recipe that we provide. Then the casseroles are dropped of at the church the Tuesday before we are scheduled to deliver the meals to the Father Carr mission in Oshkosh.
- Salvation Army
Each year around Christmas time, Our Savior’s members volunteer to ring bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. We usually reserve a few Saturdays in late November or early December to take turns ringing at the Shopko store on Green Bay Road in Neenah. Anyone can sign up to help -families, individuals, or groups. Everything is provided.
- Quilting & Mission Auxiliary
We love our quilters! Every year they make several dozen quilts for Lutheran World Relief and other organizations around the community. The group also makes school bags, bibs, pillows, walker & wheelchair bags, lap robes and baby sweaters for nursing homes, hospitals and others in our community.
This group meets every other Thursday at 9:00 am or 1:30pm. They are looking for anyone interested in joining them in this wonderful work. You don’t need to have any sewing skills to join the fun. There is always cutting, sorting and tying to do, or they will teach you anything you’d like to learn.
They are always looking for fabric to make the quilts, and old draperies or heavy fabric to make the school bags. If you have fabric to donate, please drop it off in the Purpose Center at church.
- Chili Supper
Every first Tuesday of November on Election Day, Our Savior’s hold it’s Chili Supper. The event, which is well known in the community, serves several hundred bowls of chili each year.
The proceeds from the event are split between our mission recipients for the coming year. A few months before the event, the Christian Action Committee selects the upcoming recipients — one a local recipient, one a national, and the third an international.
Due to the popularity of the event, we depend on the help of dozens of volunteers to make it happen. Whether it’s helping cook or serve the chili the night of the event, or preparation the day before, or donating food items and Nesco roasters, we couldn’t do it without our volunteers. With the presidential election occurring this year, we expect a larger than normal turnout – so volunteer help will be even more vital than normal. Please consider volunteering to help. If you’d like to help coordinate the event, please contact Alley Shepeck at 725-3956 or ashepeck@our-saviors.org
Hope to see you there.
- Students in India Program
As part of a program run through Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry, Our Savior’s members sponsor students in India. For $200 a year, you provide tuition for a child to attend boarding school for a year. At the school they receive the care they need, including housing, food and safety.
It’s a wonderful program that helps many children in impoverished parts of India who wouldn’t normally be able to attend school, or get proper care. For more information check out the Lutheran Partners website at www.lutheranpartners.org
